80 Maiden Lane, 6th Floor, New York, NY
between William St and Gold St in the Financial District
Paul Hunt served for six years as the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, where he was responsible for reporting on the status of the right to health throughout the world. He is currently a Professor of Law and member of the Human Rights Centre at University of Essex, England. Professor Hunt has grappled with some of the most contentious questions in international public health policy and human rights advocacy, including access to medicines, sexual and reproductive health rights, maternal mortality, neglected diseases, mental disabilities, and the link between poverty and health.
Join us for a wide-ranging discussion of these debates and challenges, including:
• To what extent are governments responsible for providing high quality health care and equitable access?
• What are the obligations of wealthy countries, foreign investors, international financial institutions, donors and the healthcare industry?
• What steps can and should the international community and civil society take to hold governments accountable when they fail to meet these responsibilities and obligations?
