2011 Health & Human Rights Award Dinner

Tuesday April 5, 2011

06:30:00 PM

Each year, HealthRight International recognizes the work of individuals, organizations, and businesses who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the cause of health and human rights.

This year we emphasize the dedicated efforts of individuals and organizations promoting healthier lives and protecting the human rights for mothers and children worldwide.

On April 5, 2011, HealthRight International will honor Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden with the Health & Human Rights Leadership Award for her work to make health and justice accessible to many who are mistreated in the world - children living in institutions or on the street, young mothers, sexually abused children and others.

HealthRight will also present its 2011 Corporate Leadership Award to Gilead Sciences for their work to fight the spread of HIV and AIDS around the world by developing new treatments and making therapy affordable in those countries most impacted by the disease.

Gregg Alton, Executive Vice President, Corporate and Medical Affairs, will accept the award on behalf of Gilead.

HealthRight is pleased to honor its local Russian partner, Doctors to Children, with our 2011 Partner Award.  In 2001, HealthRight International working with local volunteers helped to found Doctors to Children, an independent Russian non-governmental organization.  The goal was to ensure long-term sustainability of our work and provide support to local partners on the ground.  Ten years later, Doctors to Children co-implements many of HealthRight’s projects in Russia, and runs many more independently.  Doctors to Children provides training for medical and psychosocial providers, and health and social services for highly vulnerable children and their families in St. Petersburg, and recently expanded its work to seven other regions of the Russian Federation.  Accepting the Partner Award is Lyudmila Morozova, RN, Doctors to Children founder and board member, and current MAMA+ project social worker.
